What Is the Role of my Student Ambassadors in the IDP Student Community?

Student ambassadors are the heart of the IDP Student Community. They bring authenticity, relatability, and lived experience - helping prospective students feel informed, inspired, and supported throughout their journey.

💬 What Do Ambassadors Do?

Ambassadors contribute in a number of key ways:

  • 1-2-1 Chats
They respond to direct messages from students, offering personalised advice based on their own experiences.

  • Group Chat Participation
Ambassadors help moderate and contribute to IDP's themed group chats (e.g. career aspirations, destination insights, accommodation, culture shock) as well as your own university-specific group chat, creating a welcoming and informative space.

  • Content Creation
They share photos, videos, and written posts that reflect real student journeys - helping others understand what to expect and how to prepare.

All of their work will be done through our IDP Ambassador Platform app.

✅ Expectations of Ambassadors

To ensure a high-quality experience for students, ambassadors are expected to:

  • Respond to student messages within 48 hours
If they don’t, you will be notified via email to follow up.

  • Answer questions as best they can
Where possible, they should relate answers to their own experiences.

  • Escalate when needed

    • If asked a question about their institution they can’t answer, they can invite a university admin into the conversation (you’ll be notified by email).
    • If asked about applications or admissions, they should refer the student back to their IDP counsellor, (they'll be trained on how best to do this via the app).
  • Create content regularly
Ambassadors receive weekly content requests from IDP around core themes:

    • Destinations
    • Work & Careers
    • Finance
    • Institutions
    • Degrees & Courses

Content can be in the form of text, photo, or video. They’re expected to respond within one week, with an estimated time commitment of up to 2 hours per month (across all types of work). Both ambassadors and admins can track time spent via the dashboard and app respectively.

🧑‍🎓 Support & Training

  • IDP Ambassadors are recruited, trained, and managed by IDP.
  • University Ambassadors are recruited and guided by the institution, with support from IDP for platform training and best practices.

All ambassadors receive onboarding and ongoing support to ensure consistency, quality, and alignment with platform guidelines.
