What Is the Role of my Student Ambassadors in the IDP Student Community?
Student ambassadors are at the heart of the IDP Student Community. They bring authenticity, lived experience, and human connection to thousands of IDP‑guided students navigating their study‑abroad journey. Their role is simple, structured, and highly impactful - and supported by both your university team and IDP.
The Core Role of Ambassadors
Your ambassadors help prospective and offer‑holding students feel informed, inspired, prepared, and supported by:
- Sharing real experiences about academic life, student life, and life abroad
- Offering practical advice that only current students can provide
- Creating a sense of belonging for students who are comparing universities or facing big decisions
- Helping reduce uncertainty during key milestones in the application and enrolment process
Key Activities Ambassadors Perform
Ambassador responsibilities fall into four main categories:
1. 1‑to‑1 Student Chats: 30min-1h/month
Ambassadors:
- Respond to direct messages from students seeking guidance
- Share honest insights from their personal experiences
- Redirect students to their IDP counsellor when professional or application‑specific support is needed
Ambassadors are not responsible for application counselling or admissions advice - they simply share “what it’s really like.
2. University Group Chat Participation: 30min-1h/month
Ambassadors contribute to your university-specific group chat, such as:
- Course choice conversations
- Destination‑related questions
- Student life and career‑path topics
Your ambassadors help keep these conversations positive, welcoming, and informative.
3. Creating Experience‑Based Content: 30min/month
Ambassadors produce simple, student‑focused content such as:
- Best spots on campus or the nearby town/city
- How they take advantage of the university facilities
- Top tips for managing their studies
- How they celebrate cultural events whilst at university
They will receive 1 content request per week from the IDP Community Manager and this content will be one of the following: photos, videos or a written answer to a FAQ. You can view these requests at any time from your Dashboard > Content > Content Requests.
What Ambassadors Are Not Expected to Do
Ambassadors do not:
- Give application or visa advice
- Replace an IDP counsellor
- Handle admissions decisions
- Provide professional academic guidance
- Monitor other students’ behaviour or moderate IDP‑wide spaces
Their role is experience‑based support, not operational support.
All of their work will be done through our TAP app.
